Calm Your Nerves and Be Alert with Aromatherapy
Especially for exams you want to be relaxed and grounded. There is a good combination of essential oils that will help you. You can dab the mixture on the inside of your wrists, across the pulse points, before going into the exam room. So what is this secret scent of success? I will begin by telling you how I discovered it in the run-up to my finals and then go on to share the recipe with you and the qualities of the ingredients.
Like the majority of students I was very nervous before beginning my Finals exams. I have always had an interest in aromatherapy and I kept a small supply of essential oils in the house. Essential oil of Lavender is well known for being very relaxing and I would dab a few drops on each wrist while revising to relieve the tension a little. A lot of my revision I did late at night. I like the quiet but that combined with the effects of essential oil of Lavender can produce an effect beyond simply calming the nerves. Lavender is also used to encourage sleep and that was certainly not my purpose. A further ingredient was necessary.
If you are having difficulty sleeping then do sprinkle a few drops of Lavender on your pillow or on a handkerchief kept close by. A good night’s sleep is a necessity when you are taking exams and need to be on top form the following day. When it comes to the next morning and you are on the way to the exam hall then you need an added ingredient that will help you remain alert and focussed. This is where essential oil of Rosemary comes into the equation. You do not want to use too much of this oil but a little will help you stay on the job.
A further factor in attaining your optimum performance during exams is eliminating stress. Geranium is helpful in this respect. It also has a very pleasant scent. As exam time is obviously a stressful time and stress makes it difficult to apply yourself fully this is another good component for our blend.
Now we have three ingredients they need to be put together to create an effective blend. You will need a carrier oil, sweet almond is a good choice, and a small, dark coloured bottle. Fill the bottle with one fluid ounce of carrier oil. Add no more than ten drops of essential oil in the following proportions: 4 drops of Lavender; 4 drops of Geranium; 2 drops of Rosemary. Rub a little on the inside of your wrists and good luck with your exams.
To finish the story of my finals, imagine my surprise when I entered the exam hall and the delicious aroma of essential oils filled the air. I was not the only one using them and my blend was just one of many present in the room that day.
